I went to photograph the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) novenaria procession last night at Olvera Street. I had wanted to photograph it for several years now but could never find time to get there until yesterday. This is a sacred holiday for latin americans so it was very interesting to see the various activities. The main challenge photographically was the light. It had very bright lighting in some places and very little ambient light in others.
I broke the mirror on my 5D Mark II two weeks ago while in Monterey so I had to borrow a Rebel for last night’s photo shoot. It would have been nice to have the high ISO capabilities on the 5D Mark II so I could have used a faster shutter speed while maintaining some ambient lighting but I’ll take what I can get.
